How I use Google AI Studio to analyze winning ads

Stop analyzing hundreds of ads manually and read this

Hey guys,

Every creative strategist should be using Google’s AI video analysis in their workflow.

Why?

Because Gemini (by Google) is currently the only AI tool that can watch and analyze video.

Here’s how it works and how to get the most out of it as a creative strategist…

But first, here’s what’s I’ve come across in AI this week:

Why Google AI Studio is different

Google AI Studio can actually watch and analyze video content, unlike ChatGPT, Claude, or any other AI tool currently available. This means you can upload your ads and get detailed feedback on not just the transcript, but the visuals too.

How to get started…

Go to aistudio.google.com (different to the traditional Gemini tool) and select the latest model (currently Gemini 2.5 Pro).

I like to start by uploading some of my top performing ads and getting it to break down why it thinks they're working.

Here's a simple prompt I use:

"These are some of our top performing ads for [BRAND]. Watch them and identify common trends and patterns across the videos that humans might miss"

If it’s not giving you the response you want, you can give it feedback like you would on ChatGPT.

For example: "Much more in-depth. Find specific details and reference the videos."

Winning vs losing analysis

Once you've analyzed your winners, upload some ads that didn't perform well and ask Gemini to spot the differences.

The prompt:"Now watch these [BRAND] ads that didn't perform well and identify what the high performers do differently from the low performers"

I only gave it 5 winning ads and 5 losing ads and I know from first-hand experience that these insights are accurate.

It picked up on subtle differences in pacing, hook delivery, and even background elements that I hadn't consciously noticed but could be impacting performance.

If you want to take it one step further, you can upload performance metrics too and get it to analyze them.

The Potential Use Cases Are Limitless

Gemini’s video analysis has so many use cases at this point, here are just a few ways it can be used:

For edit reviews: Upload rough cuts to catch spelling mistakes, pacing issues, or continuity problems before final delivery

For competitor analysis: Analyze entire ad libraries to understand what's working in your space and identify gaps in your own strategy

For organic content research: Study viral TikToks and Instagram Reels to identify trends you can adapt for paid ads

For pattern recognition: Spot trends across hundreds of ads that would take hours to identify manually

At some point, you may even be able to feed Gemini your untested ads and it'll give you specific feedback on what to change/improve based on its knowledge of your top performers.

Some prompts I’ve been trying myself

Obviously, as the strategist, you still need the skillset to know which advice to follow and which to ignore. This isn't a replacement for good creative judgment.

But it's an incredibly useful tool for spotting trends and patterns that we might miss when manually reviewing hundreds of ads.

Our performance managers use AI Studio every day. I genuinely think it becomes a big part of the creative workflow over the next 6-12 months once it starts becoming more accessible in the tools and softwares we all use. The ability to get AI feedback on video content is going to change how we approach creative strategy.

If you try this out, let me know what insights you discover. I'm always curious to hear how other strategists are using these tools.
